• A health license for the state of residence
• Passing the American Health Insurance Plan test (AHIP)
• Passing individual carrier certification test(s)
• Completing any required carrier-specific training

Medicare advantage certification can be completed in as little as 3 weeks.

Selling Medicare Advantage can be very lucrative financially.  

Most insurance carriers pay renewal commissions which means that as long as the client stays enrolled, their agent will be paid commission again each year.  

It is also personally rewarding in that agents are often helping people that need it most by enrolling them in plans that offer benefits that the beneficiary might not be able to get otherwise. 

Products offered should include: 

• Medicare Advantage plans (MAPD's)
• Prescription Drug Plans (PDP's) 
• Medicare supplements (Med Supps)

Medicare plans help beneficiaries in a number of different ways. 

They offer ancillary benefits like routine dental, routine vision, routine hearing, non-emergency medical transportation and food cards. 

They also allow for greater predictability in medical expenses and a maximum out of pocket limit.

Anyone who has Medicare is considered a lead.  

Therefore, it is important to inform those that you know that you are a Medicare agent.  Even if someone is not on Medicare, they probably know several people that are.

You can also conduct informal marketing events at senior centers, senior housing, food pantries, etc.  You can also use other creative means to reach beneficiaries.

You CANNOT, however, contact Medicare beneficiaries at their homes without their prior consent.

This is non-compliant activity.

There are approximately 41M people currently on Medicare. That number is expected to increase to roughly 80M in the next 8 years.  

That means that sales prospects in the Medicare space are extremely bright.
